The Art Fag City Fundraiser

My friend, and one of NYC’s best art bloggers, Paddy Johnson is holding an end of year fundraiser to raise money to keep her blog (Art Fag City) going for another year.

“… we’ve all seen what happens to blogs when their focus changes to traffic, and the results aren’t good. Gawker’s music blog Idolator released Maura Johnson earlier this year, one of the best critics working today, in exchange for a couple writers who would more willingly focus on Kanye West and Britney Spears. Idolator’s traffic went up, sure, but where’s its substance? I don’t need that kind of money to stay afloat, I just have to eat. Your support helps me do this.”

If you value independent voices in media and criticism, please check out the fundraiser and consider donating.

The Top 20 Most Powerless People in the Art World
Here are the Top 5:

Everyone entirely unknown to Hans Ulrich Obrist – If the kingmaker isn’t on your cell phone, well, at least your mother is.
The guy in the bunny outfit who year after year protested in front of Gagosian’s 25th Street gallery — hey buddy, how’s the career?
Independent curators without trust funds – There’s a saying, “No trust, no love.”
Artists who can’t speak English, French, German, or Spanish. While the world is filled with approximately 6,800 languages, artwork must adhere to the linguistic realities of economics.
That man at all the openings who might be homeless. Wine at gallery openings may be the art world’s only form of social service to people outside their realm, but hey, it’s something.

Judging by the photo posted above, looks like the cartoonist at Artworld had the same idea we did :)

Graffiti Research Lab cofounder and all-around #BADA55 Evan Roth’s book Available Online For Free is now available in stores for real money

(well, only at Basheer Design Books in Hong Kong, Fondation Cartier in Paris, and on the internet)

I want one of these so bad.  I’m going to try and pick one up in Paris over the holidays.

And yes, I know it’s literally available online for free

After months of hard work, I’m excited to announce that our new site, Hyperallergic aka ”The World’s Greatest New York Art Blogazine” is now live!

Hrag is guest editing the Art 21 Blog for the next few weeks and is highlighting one of the themes of the fifth season of PBS’s Art 21: Transformation
“While Transformation evokes associations of all types, in relation to art the topic conjures up a long list of associations, including how we refashion identity, how we reinvent ourselves and how art adapts and changes over time.”
